I want to be able to share files and a printer between my 2 machines. One is Win2000 dedicated to video editing and one is general purpose with a printer. When trying to "add a network place" there are too many options and not enough info. There is a NIC card in each machine. Seems like a simple enough (and common enough) need, but I don't find enough info to choose from all the options and, of course, the choices are different in the two OSs.

Thanks!

The easiest way to access shared drives is to open Network 'hood and "drill down" to the listing of computers on your network. (In 2000 you would need to click "entire network" then "microsoft windows network" and then open the workgroup or domain that contains your computers.) At that point simply click the computer your interested in and a list of it's shares (both folders and printers) will be displayed. To "map" a share to a drive letter simply right click it and choose "map network drive".

To add a network printer click "start", "settings" and open the "printers " icon. Run the "add printer wizard" and choose "network printer".

Hope this helps http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Make sure that both machines are on the same domain (or workgroup) and that "file and print sharing" is enabled on both machines. I'm not trying to insult anybody's intelligence. Sometimes it's the simple things we all tend to over look.
