Thanks in advance for all of your inputs!
My problem is that our school has been given about 20 ethernet cards, which supposed to be 10T/100T base (well, that's what it says on the box). When i plug one of them in the machine win 2k successfully detects it and automatically put it at 10T base! How do i find out whether it actually is 10T/100T or just 10T (the cards are RLT8029(AS) chip based)? What about the hubs? are the hubs made to support certain transfer rate only? Once again thanks for your inputs!!!

Yes, hubs will support only 1 "speed" either 10Mb or 100Mb. Some hubs are auto sensing hubs and will configure themselfs to run at the speed of the connecting NIC. To be sure your NIC is setup to autodetect the speed of the lan. Open network properties and right click the lan connection. At the top of the new window click "configure" and then "advance". Look for a "media Type" field or simply check each field in turn. It should be set either to "auto" or "hardware default" (auto is the auto sensing option and the one you want. Hardware default could be anything but normaly is the fastest bit rate.) You can also configure the speed from this same page to 10 half duplex or 100 half duplex ( half duplex is for hubs, full duplex is for switches) but remember the hub must support whatever speed you choose.
