hard drive

help, dumb question-but if i have a compaq presario and the hard drive crashed do i need to buy anyone specifically.,ie is compaq proprietary? or can i buy any hd??

I think that Compaq uses standard drives but other things like power supplies and the motherboard are proprietary....unless of course it's a laptop.

you can buy (and use) any hard drive that is compatible with your motherboard, sdram, bios,ummmmmmmm... yes a compaq one would probably be just perfect. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif

but seriously, you can but why??

additionally, if you call Compaq support, they will send you out a new/refurbished one for free. ( they did to me)
