Does anyone know how to make the box go away that tells me how many items I have selected at the bottom of the windows explorer? Reason: I would like to have it tell me file size on the far left and skip the total items selected or posibly switch the positions of the two if thats at all posible
any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks

Don't think that there is an option, and judging by the lack of responce think that it's a general opinion, posted a similar question in the forum a while ago....,

I have just gone from w95 to w98. & when I opened a folder in w95 the status bar gave the number of docs etc. in the left window & the size of either the folder or selected doc. on the right.
In w98 the status bar gives the number on the left but on the right just the 'My Computer' icon.
I can't find where to change this.
---------------

That question got no response either, I think that some of these things are set by whichever O/S you are using, without options. if I'm wrong hopefully someone will step in and correct me. If I do find anything out though will let you know.

The status bar is a "child window" of the "parent window". In this case Explorer. It is hard coded for size(fields) and information it displays. To change it you would need to hack the code since I'm not aware of any 3rd party program that can make the adjustment for you. The only options you have are to turn it on/off.

Hope this helps http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

"Klingon function calls do not have 'parameters'. They have 'arguments'....and they ALWAYS WIN THEM!"

In case anyone stumbles here, and this may help them come up with an answer for me..............

I have read that win98 2nd edition "has this condition" and they list it as a "known problem"
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q229/1/45.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0&qry=status%20bar&rnk=7&src=DHCS_MSPSS_gn_SRCH&SPR=W98

I am running win98 1st edition, and would like to remain doing so for various reasons.............but this gives me some idea, that "it may be posible" to make this happen on my computer..........

I suspect once MS comes out with their solution for this "problem" it "may" help me to reverse this condition on my computer.......depending on what they do to "fix it"

Like Ghost suggested (and I completely agree and appreciate your response ghost... Thanks Again!) This is most likely hard coded within windows explorer itself.........

Perhaps there is an as of yet unknown registry key that could be changed or modified?
Perhaps I could install a copy of win explorer.exe from another comp with 2nd edition?
Perhaps its not stored in the *.exe file and maybe in another system file that could be replaced?
Perhaps none of the above? heh

At any rate its really not all that important.........
Just one of those things that if the answer ever appears would be glad to find it http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
