I've just gotten a new PC running ME after using an old 95 machine for a number of years, and I'm trying to get used to a lot of new software which seems to have been "dumbed down". An example is ME's Windows Explorer. What the heck is the purpose of the 25% of the screen in this application devoted to "My Documents ...Select an item...See also..."???? Call me old fashioned, but I always liked file manager from 3.1, so I use the "Folders" option, where this "My Documents" idiocy fits between the folders area and the "name" column, wasting space which could be displaying the entire file name (WITH extension, god forbid...) size, date etc. I see you can go through each and every folder on your hard drive & select the "classic icon" view to eliminate "My Documents", but I wonder if anyone knows how to do it globally? Similarly, I'd like to have the thing default to "details" and "folder" (rather than having to set this every time I enter), but again can't find out how.
Ideas?
