I'm new here, and system doesn't seem to allow me to edit my profile. Also, I'm not a speed typist, and system seems to have a very short fuse! By the time I finish typing response to post, system has me logged off; I have to log on again, and hope I can make it back to where I was to preview my response, then enter it. Are there fixes to either?

How are you trying to edit your profile? Are you using the "user CP" up at the top left in the blue navigation bar? If so what error is it giving you or what is otherwise happening?
When you logon tick the "keep my logged in" box, and make sure your browser is allowing cookies from pcguide.com.

Addressing the first issue, yes there are restrictions on profiles IXL put in place recently to block new registrants from profiting from spam via their signatures in our member list without contributing actual posts. I do not remember the exact number of posts that he is requiring but you will be able to edit your sig at some point along the way.
I do not know how quickly the system logs you off, you may wish to clear cookies and test again if it continues to log you out.
Neither of your questions are dumb, BTW.

Regardless of whether you are being timed-out or closing the window by mistake, etc, it can be a good idea for long posts to first write them in something like Notepad or Word (and which should prompt you if they are closed). I like Tom Revell's stickies (http://www.zhornsoftware.co.uk/stickies/) for this sort of job since as soon as you have typed anything it is saved until the whole sticky is deleted.

Yeah, I wondered why I couldn't look at my profile in the user CP so glad to know what's up.since the message just says not authorized.

Nice. I have pile of stickies on my desk, this will help eliminate that mess.
Hmm, wonder if I can get it to run in wine.... then have it point to the same file so it is synced in both windows and Linux.

I have my doubts that stickies would work within Wine since the display is all on the desktop. The underlying data/database is the content of the stickies.ini file usually in the .../Application Data/Stickies/ folder or the folder where the exe is kept.

Tom Revell's stickies (http://www.zhornsoftware.co.uk/stickies/), this really looks like a good little program but I notice it says Vista and W7. Will it work with XP do you know?

Well duh, if I'd read the other page I could have answered my own question. Geesh this getting old is for the birds! :D

Will it work with XP do you know?It has always done so for me. I think it should work with all the NT-based versions of Windows and maybe also Win95 through WinME.

As I remember when I downloaded it it said use an older version than the current one for XP and earlier.

I have just shut down an old version and downloaded and installed (ie upgraded) the latest version 7.0b to run on WinXP. It went quickly and seamlessly and it is all functioning well and has also retained the old settings. I also like the new appearance and will have to play with some of the latest features.

Also Win 7 has some sticky notes as a "feature" already.

I can't comment on the Win 7 stickies but as time has gone by Tom Revell has turned his stickies program from being a simple virtual sticky note into what is really a very elaborate program. I personally like the fact that one can cofigure the notes to "roll up" into a small area with a double click and my vet's employees where they work on a SOHO LAN just love the fact that they can send each other sticky notes via the LAN. Another thing that has improved is that URL's entered can be clicked to open a browser. Etc.
