I have recently installed fresh copy of Windows XP SP2 and using Trend Micro internet security scan 2009. After installation of all necessary software/drivers I checked the status of my internet and found problem in web browsing. I am using DSL 512 kbps. After entering website address, it first downloads webpage normally and than when I click any link it shows errors like connection error reset or can not find address. After pressing refresh or GO button 3-5 times it start browsing. I tried both Firefox 3.6 and Default IE 7 and found same problem. At the same time I have checked status of downloading file. It was working fine and downloading files from web without any error or breakage. Also I had checked web browsing by stopping files downloads and found same problem. I thoroughly checked the connection settings of Firefox and IE and found nothing abnormal. I also tried by disabling Trend Micro Micro firewall and Web threat option, but found no success.
Can anyone suggest me, how to solve this problem.
Thanks and Regards,

If it happens in two browsers I would say that tends to rule out a browser problem, downloads show speed is fine. When you say you disable trend micro are you sure the service is stopped? Check the services.msc after you stop trend micro, stop and disable the trend micro services, open Task Manager and look through any running processes too that you can stop. Then try again to browse around. You may need to uninstall the whole application to test. It sounds like something is scanning the pages as you open them and this would likely be Trend Micro. Once you know that's the problem you may be able to customize the settings of the app or upgrade it.

I would try a different computer at this point. It sounds like you may either have a problem with your OS install or an issue with your internet connection. Trying another computer (if you have one or can get one) will provide the answer to the question "Do I have a computer problem or do I have a connection problem?" If you don't have another computer or cannot get one, you could try a live CD like Knoppix that will test your connection on totally different software.

If you have a floppy drive on your computer I would suggest running the Harddrive diagnostics. If you do not have a floppy drive you can also burn a CD and run from there. Your computer harddrive manufacturer's website will have the necessary downloads to do either.

If Linux works you have a Windows problem for which I would uninstall Trend for now, rather than try to stop all or parts of it, and then also turn off the Windows own Firewall, which can switch itself on after disabling another firewall.
How do you connect to your DSL ? By modem (cable or USB) or router (wired or wifi) or both ?
