optimal or best settings i run a 1ghz athlon and recently had to clear cmos so when i ran start up i loaded optimal settings was i right in doing this?.

As long as you don't experience any conflicts, or notice any problems, it should be fine.
If you do, you can always change it back. Run it for a while that way to see.
