View Full Version : Re-install
I have a pc that had Win'95 on it.
i thought '95 had been wiped out and wanted to
re-install, I ran fdisk and tried to
re-partition the primary and extended DOS partitions
No matter how much(or little) space I allow for dos
when I try to run windows setup I get a message that
says "windows setup requires 7340032 bytes available
on c:drive(the hard drive on this computer is 1223mb
How can I wipe this hard drive out and do a clean install?

Boot it from floppy to ms-dos and then reformat the HDD. After that do a clean install of WIN95.

Yep, that's what it means. If format terminated you have a serious problem with the hard drive. Often it will finish the format, but will take longer than usual. When it terminates, something is amiss in a big way.
Try scandisk. Assume x is the drive letter:
scandisk_x:_/autofix_/nosummary_/surface
using spaces in place of the underscores ( _ ) used here, will run a thorough scandisk from DOS. You might also try the drive manufacturer's utilities, usually available on their websites. They should have a diagnostics program.
