Hi all http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

I need some help setting up a group of machines (around 4-5) to play multiplayer Quake/Doom etc. I know absolutely *nothing* about networks, as I've only ever played multiplayer via modem or null-modem cable. All the machines will be situated reasonably close together. What do I need? Network cards? Hubs? (whatever they may be http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif ).

Thanks for your help.

Hang around to see if the resident network guru (GhostHacker) chimes in, but here are a couple of links http://frag.qgl.org/sites/faq.shtml (this one if really for an event, but they discuss the equipment used) http://www.multiplay.co.uk/i-series/i_bring.asp (same here) http://www.dansdata.com/network.htm (this one takes a while to load, but is super...I go to Dan's site for reviews all the time)

Good luck and have fun http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Check out Game Spot (http://www.gamespot.com/features/pc_workshop7/index.html) for a good article on setting up a home network, oriented toward gaming. My site posted below also has a couple other links related to home networking, plus, of course, the links posted above.
