Microphone doesn't work

I have my mic plugged in and when I blow into it, I can hear it but when I say something while Sound Recorder is on or if Ventrilo is on, nothing happens. Can someone help me resolve this issue please?

EDIT: When I turn on Sounder Recorder and play a song on the computer, I can hear the song rather then what I say in my mic. I'm not sure if that will help but I think I changed a few settings around because people in Ventrilo can hear the music on my PC rather then my voice.

what OS? (Windows, Mac, Linux? (7, vista, xp, what ever Mac OSs are..., Kubuntu, Ubuntu, Red Cap)

Something might have changed in the Audio Control. I would make sure that the microphone is still active in the controls and not muted.

If that doesn't work, I would reload the audio drivers.

also check the program that you are using. I've had to set some programs to use the microphone.

yeah, it might be great suggestions to check the program
