I need to connect twin USB sockets to my motherboard.

The local shop here in rural Wales (UK) supplied a "slot" with cables and two 4 way (IDC)connectors to link to the motherboard.

The problem is the motherboard pins are arranged with a space between the first pin and the next 3. The connector supplied has them equally spaced and so won't fit.

My board is a QDI "Titanium IB" and the cables supplied are described as "Twin USB Interface Cable, 2 x 4 way IDC to 2 x Type A Socket".

Can anyone tell me what the connector I need is called? The shop hasn't come accross it before and I can't find any supplier on the web for it (UK sites). One problem is web site search engines are not good enough to identify what I need. The board site doesn't give this level of detail.

Any advice gratefully received.

Welcome, jon! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Looks like you may need a special non-standard connector.

Click Here (http://www.qdigrp.com/qdisite/eng/Products/tx1b.htm) for QDI's web page with an FAQ. It mentions the USB setup.

Good Luck! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

If you need the USB ports in a hurry and have an open pci slot, you can pick up a pci to usb card w/2 or 4 usb ports on it fairly cheap...since you may have to wait for the part you need...

And lately I've noticed that even with 5, I never have enough USB ports...so it probably wouldn't be a waste of money...

Thanks for the advice. I've just tried a different connector with 5 wires for 5 pins with no luck. I'll check the link posted by tjaymadison
and if that don't work I'll have to shell out for a card.
