Network a P.C. & Mac?

Hello, Can anyone tell us what is required to network our computers? In the past I worked for a law firm that did it. Only thing I remember is the P.C. was the server & there was a program called P.C. Docs. Specifically, we need to know what hardware we will require.
The Mac is a PowerMac running 8.6 & the P.C. is Windows ME.
Since I have been delegated the Mac & much prefer the P.C., I will be truly greatly for any & all advice. Thanks, KiKi

Hello KIKI, and welcome.
with Macs you have a protocol named "Appletalk". You can install this on PC's so they can communicate over a network. I think Macs also have TCP/IP protocol, which is the same one used on the internet. Go to your network icons on both machines, get to properties and configure your protocols from there. If you use TCP/IP, you will need to set up how you get your IP address which you would get from your administator.

To get Mac's to 'talk ' to Windows computers which aren't servers. You'll need 3rd party sofware like COPS or DAVE. (never heard of P.C. DOCs) This may not be true with Mac OS X( Since it's based on Unix)

You'll only need the normal network connectivity hardware to setup the network.
