I used what I think was the author's high resolution download for this image on my desktop. I think it was saved on an old harddrive I retired, or on my retired SCSI server. I've been unable to find where the original photo was here on the PC Guide. I think it was in After Hours and the author had stored it on something like Photobucket where I downloaded it from...

Any help would be much appreciated...

Didn't that used to be a pic you downloaded as part of the speed test on one of the speed test sites?

Not sure where you can find that particular one but maybe you would find one of these (http://www.lunaroutpost.com/gallery/shuttle_sts_launches/index.htm) to your liking.

Thanks jlr!! Not sure about the speed test thing... I seem to remember that it was a member here who posted it, and I thought it was something they had taken the shot. Although, I don't know that NASA would let anyone without proper credentials get that close...

Thanks for the link!

I'm not finding that exact photo but there is clearly some taken from the same angle if you Google "Shuttle launch pics" and they are quite varying in pixels and file sizes etc.

This one (http://www.nasa.gov/centers/kennedy/images/content/220801main_launch.jpg) looks to be from the same flight but not quite from the same angle.

Try Googling 'high res Shuttle launch pics' or play around with similar searches.

Sadly, I was at home with the flu, in bed, watching a launch, live on TV when a shuttle launch was a bit more exciting than a 'mundane' affair, when Christa McAuliffe was aboard. :( I wonder now how the children who were also watching so intensely are doing these days.

Thanks FTT!! Yep, looks very similar. The PC Guide member who posted the shot I have, if I remember correctly, had taken the photo himself. I don't remember what the discussion was about, e.g. Desktop, Photography, etc. But I'm pretty sure it was posted here on the PC Guide by a member.

I fell in love with it partly because I'm a Tim the Tool Man kinda guy and the
sheer power of the image rocked my world... I also liked that it was at night which focused on the light conquering the darkness. The angle and everything about the photo was moving...
