Windows 7 home premium 64-bit
EVGA 790i SLI FTW mainboard
Intel Q9550
EVGA GeForce 9600 GT Video Card
4 GB OCZ memory (can't remember specs)
Onboard Sound (due to spacing issues between the PCIE 1x slot and PCIE 16x video card slot)
Video going to a Denon receiver via HDMI, sound to same receiver via Optical (HDMI sound won't work properly, otherwise would just be the HDMI cable)

So... what's happening is that anytime I get a game going (have tried thus far with Dragon Age Origins, Dungeons and Dragons Online, and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic) the sound will go out after the game gets started (title screens and menus, the game works fine). The sound will be out for the entirety of the system until I reboot it.

I'm not sure what has changed in the last few months, but I know at the very least that DAO was working fine when it first came out, on the same setup.

Also, video and audio programs work without issue (WMP, VLC, iTunes, etc).

I had a hell of a time getting the sound working in the first place, which is why I'm reluctant to start yanking drivers (which is the first thing I'm tempted to do). Any suggestions other than that I can try and look at?
