I was installing a new Operating system windows 95 and windows 98. I keep on seeing the blue screen of death. And i can't rid of it. I don't have anything to do but to restart my pc. Is this a sign of defective memory or hard disk? pls help.

Hi tenjumin,

Your post is confusing. You are trying to install win95 and win 98? If so you must have separate partitions on your hard drive for the two operating systems.

Do you mean upgrading from windows 95 to windows 98?

When exactly do you see the bsod?

Please clarify exactly what you are trying to do.

Could you also describe your system? Is it home built? If not, then who is the manufacturer? How old is it? What is the size of your hard drive?

Thanks!

My pc is AMD k6-II 500 with 64 RAM. 4 gig seagate hard disk

I already format it many times. I already make 2 partition. I enabled the large support in the fdisk.

While im installing the windows 95 or my windows 98se i can't finish the installation, in the part of configuring system or something the BSOD appears. I already used the installer on other PC and its working smoothly.

Are the Windows CD's provided by the manufacturer of your system,
or are they stand-alone retail versions?

Is the Win98 CD a full version or an upgrade?
If it is the full version, you do not need to install Win95 first.

If you tried to install Win98 over an incomplete install of Win95,
that may explain part of your problem.

You do not need to install each version in a different partition
to use both versions. During the setup of Win98, you can choose
to keep the version of Win95 still available.

If you do choose to install each version in a separate partition,
you will have to install any other programs in each partition also.
This will quickly fill up a 4G hard drive.

To start all over, you should:
• run run FDISK after booting from the A: drive
• delete the extended partition(s) and then the primary partition
• create a new primary partition using the entire drive
• format the drive once more
• install Win95 if necessary
• install Win98

Good Luck. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hi tenjumin http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
Follow tjay's advice first, this is just an idea...
What kind of motherboard do you have? If if has onboard sound/video (not on a separate card), you may be having driver difficulties. I had an old PC-Chips motherboard a couple of years ago with onboard sound that gave me the problems you are describing.
