Ive been having a problem with my pc for a few weeks, and had originally though it was my monitor. Basically the PC will start, without any feedback on the monitor, blank screen, and then a few minutes later, it will just shut off. I then took my tower to a friends house to test it out on his monitor, and it came on. However its important to note that my friend has Central air through his house, and I do not.

I then went back to test it out on my monitor with the same results, after multiple tests we discovered that the computer will only turn on inside an Air conditioned environment. I live in Florida by the way. So im guessing it is an overheating problem, however i cant figure out why, or whether its the CPU (i5) or GPU (Nvidia 9800 GTx +). The system fan seems to be running fine, along with the heat sink for the processor. Any ideas guys?

Thanks

I dont think its much of an overheating problem... Make sure that the heatsink is connected properly or you will have that problem... If your computer isnt overclocked that it should run a bit over room tempersture, if your in florida then you have no problems with heat.... It could be your monitor dude :)

I disagree with HTML_MAN, I do think it sounds like a typical overheating problem.

Get a house fan, take off the side of the case, point the fan directly into the case, start up the system and use a program like HWMonitor (http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html) to check your temps. CPU should be in the 30's C at idle 40's during use. GPU should be in the 40-50's idle and no more than high 60's under load.

From the sounds of it the GPU is overheating. If it is use a program like RivaTuner (http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=rivatuner) to control the fan speed. Often the fan speed is set too low by default, the GPU will overheat and fail.

Thank you for the replies, i will try the house fan strategy, and will update you on how it goes.
