Not sure if this is the right place to put this but I have a config question I'd love help with. I have been to the relevant page in the main site, but as it rightly says, it can't cater for all hardware needs, so I have a specific situation i would appreciate comments on :

Ok, I have :

Primary (boot) HDD - 13Gb ATA-66
Secondary (commonly used, storage) HDD ATA-100

Memorex 12x/40x DVD-ROM
Plextor 8x/4x/32x CDRW

I have only the basic 2 ATA-100 compat IDE controllers on me Mobo, and 2 ATA-100 stylee cables. OK, so question is, what config do you reckon would be best here, considering that I don't do that much CD-2-CD copying ?

Any pointers would be appreciated...and if anyone knows where one can appropriate one of these PCI-IDE add-in cards in the UK vicinity at a decent whack, all the better !!

Cheers

Hi MagooUK

ide-0....Primary (boot) HDD - 13Gb ATA-66
second Plextor 8x/4x/32x CDRW

ide...1 Primary (commonly used, storage) HDD ATA-100

second Memorex 12x/40x DVD-ROM

You have mentioned add on cards from my experence I have tried these in the past and had allsorts of problems, stick to the setup I have said above, just use 2 cables.

Without knowing how new your motherboard/BIOS/chipset combination is
and in the absence of any specific recomendations by Plextor,
I would not change your configuration from the present setup.
Particularly since you say you don't do CD-CD copying.

If Plextor recommends the RW to be a master, switch it with the DVD.

Your optimum configuration would be achieved with an add-on controller,
especially since that would let you take full advantage of your ATA-100
drive by using it alone on the primary IDE channel as the boot drive.
