Howdy

I have IE5.01 SP2 on my computer and it runs fine. My father has Netscape and is always full of questions. My question is , can I install Netscape on my computer so that I can learn alittle about it so I can maybe help him.
Even if it's possible am I asking for trouble and headaches[ worse than from him :} ] buy trying to do this.
I would like to keep IE as the defaout and just fool with Netscape when I feel like it.

Thanks for any replies

Yes, you can install Netscape and still have IE as the default browser, but depending on which version of Netscape he has (therefore which one you'd install) would be where stability/bug problems come in...the more recent versions are known to have more problems than the earlier versions as far as bugs are concerned.

It seems that the 5.x versions and maybe 6.0 were the ones with the most bugs...I ran one of the 5.x for a while and had nothing but problems with it, there are some of the other guys here who do use a dual setup who may be able to give you a little more advice.

Thanks mjc

I certainly don't want to mess up what I have but if I can do it
without to much risk so I can help him out great.
I'll find out what version he has. It's about a two year old Gateway
with 98SE. I think his ISP (Hargray) set it all up for him.
Unfortunatly he's 1000 miles away so I can't just run over there http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

thanks again

Stick around, I know some of the other guys run both and can give a few more tips, I gave up on it with the 5.x versions, but one of the other things is if/when you want to get rid of Netscape it will be a real pain...

I have both on mine. But, when I decided to get Netscape, I opted for 4.7
I think that's better than the Netscape 6.

Couldn't you uninstall Netscape and then install IE on that system?

if you're getting Netscrape, get 4.72 or 4.73, anything newer is trouble. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif

hopefully he doesn't have anything newer than that.

I have both IE5 and netscape 4.76...very stable, never any problems. Have tried newer browsers, nothing but bugs. Just my 2 cents http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Thanks to all

I have installed Netscape 4.7 and it seem to be running fine alomg with IE 5.01 at the moment. It's similiar in some ways but quite different in others.
