I am having problems with my computer. The screen looks like it loss some colors and resolution. I check the display in the control panel and it is only showing I have only 256 colors and the screen area is 640x480. I sue to have more slections and now it looks horrible. My options are lost. What do I need to do to get it back to normal? Windows 98 installed.

I sounds like the Video card drivers and card settings have been changed.
You should first check to see that windows is using/ identify the correct card.

Then you should uninstall the old drivers IF required by your video card doc's.
Reboot the system .
Then reinstall the drivers for the video card.

The reason for the uninstall of the drivers .
Is that some uninstall programs will not remove old drivers in the future IF you use the driver update while the old drivers are on the system.
A few driver install programs will not even allow an update if the old drivers are installed.
( Matrox and 3DXF ) to name a couple

More info needed:

Separate video card, or integrated on motherboard?
Was the display OK at some time in the past?
Any new hardware or software programs installed?
Any error messages?

A hint for future reference:
This kind of problem should go in Audio and Video rather than How Do I.
