How Do I Change Registration Info In Microsoft Office 2000 Premium? For Example when MS Word 2000 Starts it pops up the splash screen that has
Fred Flinstone
Vice President...
and I want it to say
Barney Rubble
President...
How can I change that info for Office 2000? Any help would be grateful. And the names are just made up for example purposes.

Hello Help_me,
That info unfortunately is stored in binary format in the reg key for office
Its stored in the registry
At least Im 99% sure thats where its stored.........
The name should be stored under "UserName"
But I really dont recommend you mess around in there unless you really know what youre doing!...................
If you mess up your registry dont blame me heheh
Good Luck!

I always thought Barney was the Vice-President myself. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

Guys, this is the kind of thing we don't answer here. This is getting into the area of tinkering with licensing/registration issues, and the forum policy is basically the same as with software piracy. If a person wants to know how to bypass licensing/registration issues, we can't help.

No problem, I assumed you weren't aware of our typical stance concerning issues of this sort, and it's not by any means the first time I've stepped in on a topic of this type. I avoid editing other people's posts if at all possible, except in the case of profanity, but in some cases I feel it's necessary. This time I thought it was.
It might be simply a case of a misspelled name, but we have no way of knowing or proving that. It could just as easily be a copy "borrowed" from a friend...then we'd be helping someone bypass registration requirements, and I've always taken great pains to make sure the forums do not develop a reputation for doing things of that nature, even if it does rub some people the wrong way...one of the less attractive aspects of my position...

Pete -- This seems to be making a mountain out of a molehill.
First of all, the User Info is NOT on the CD, but is created on
the HD from info supplied by the user during the installation process.
Second, if this were a "borrowed" CD, HELP_ME would need the Product CD Key
to successfully install, but that is NOT what he is asking for.
Certainly this site would not want to be a party to furnishing one of those.
Last, Microsoft publishes this article on its own website:
How to Change Name and Company After Windows Installation
If M$ doesn't see this to be a problem or violation for Windows itself, who's harmed?

Good point, and I knew of the existence of the article you posted, but how do we know any one instance is a legal and legitimate one? We don't, which is the main reason we normally leave these alone.
If, for example, someone bought a used machine and simply wants to change the name, that would be no big problem as far as I'm concerned. On the other hand, if someone loaned someone else or burned a copy of a drive image to use in the absence of a legal copy of the program, we would be assisting them in bypassing piracy protection measures...
The point is we have no way of knowing whether a question of this type concerns a legal copy of the software or not. Lots of gray area here too. But since we have no way of seeing the computer concerned or knowing if we're helping someone out with illegally acquired software, it's best to stay away from it.
Look at it this way. I have to draw the line somewhere, so with issues of this nature, how far can I let it go? Really tough question, do I stop here or go on till we have people trying to post warez/cracks links every other day? I prefer to play it as conservative as possible, having no way of knowing the legitimacy of any one situation.

I certainly did not mean to break any protocols on this site and I don't even know what in the world burning an image of a Hard drive entails, All I needed was to change the name on my work computer from the former employee that worked there to mine. I had no idea that this was in anyway illegal or a problem. I was just trying to keep from calling tech support to fix the problem because they usually take forever to get up here and they would probably just tell me to not worry about it and move on because they are a bunch of stuck up people. I again appologize to anyone if this post was somehow breaking policy or causes any problems with Microsoft's License Agreement. I just thought that I could change the name without any problems and save a head-ache, but I guess that I caused a bigger problem than I was trying to fix.
