i have 1 computer with DSL connection i'm trying to share the connection through my LAN but its not working properly (the file and print sharing is working fine) but the computer with DSL has only Win98 1st edition
and doesn't have internet connection sharing item in win setup
is there a way around it or does it have to be win98 2nd ed/ME/2000?
i have had it share cable but DSL not working properly

suggestions?

To actually share a connection you could use Win98SE or Win2k. Or download a shareware program to share. I have used sharing on both Win98 and Win2k. Win2k is better stablity.

Check my website posted in my signature. I have links to a couple of places where you can look for programs to allow you to use Internet Connection Sharing, as well as good information on setting it up. I think Wingate is the most popular one, and it's also available at retail stores that have a good selection of software. CompUSA is one place I know I saw it, Office Max, Circuit City and others of that type should have it too.

Also check around the forums for some of the posts by mjc, he has a pretty good site too where you might find some useful links.

it might be easier just to get a router, then you need no internet connection sharing program, i have a linksys router that cost 99.00 (4-port) , it is it's own DHCP server, and always stays connected, I wasnt too sure about that ICS, (i have win98SE, which has it on there), and wasnt too sure if i would have another computer someday, which now I have 4, so when i got my third comp i just plugged the cable in to the NIC and it was ready, saves a lotta headaches for me

Ivan, You will need to install win98 2nd edition on the other computer. Both computers need to have the same OS. How do you have your network setup? Are you using a 10/100 hub? I also have a network and am using a 10/100 hub. I have my dsl connected into my hub into the uplink slot and the two computers in slots 1 and 2
