I have NT, now I want to use USB, but my only other op. sys. is win98, but it won't install unless I am in DOS mode. How do I get there from NT?
Would creating a bootable floppy from my other w98 machine work? What driver would I have to put on it to make my cdrom work?
Is there any other way to do it?
If I get desperate and have to shell out $180 for ME (cant 'upgrade' for $80) will I have the same problem?
Thanks for any help,

I have downgraded from Win2k to Win98 many times
I have actually had to use a Linux Disk partion program to get drive from NTFS to FAT. In other words, if it is NTFS, you are looking at a FDISK and format. If it is FAT, then a format and reinstall is the way to go.

Use the NT setup disks as if you're going to install it, during the install you should have the option to repartition the drive, change it back to FAT and you should be able to exit the installation program afterward without actually reinstalling NT and install win98.
That's assuming you now have NT installed on an NTFS partition.
If it's on a FAT partition I'm not sure, I'll have to look it up and don't have my book handy at the moment, but I'll try...If it's on a FAT 16 or 32 partition, you should be able to simply fdisk, format and install with no problems, repartitioning with fdisk then formatting should remove all data currently on the drive. To do that, I think a win98 start up disk should work, but I may be wrong, one of the others more familiar with NT may be able to answer that better than I can.

FDISK from a win 98 start up disk
Remove partition (If it was NTFS then you will have to remove the NON-DOS partition)
Restart
Select yes to support for large HDD
Create new partition
Restart then format
You now have FAT 32 and can install Win 98
You will now

The one thing you do not want to do in this situation is buy windows ME unless you do not want your computer to work very often...
It is nothing but trouble and the only reason one would want it is for it's system restore capability.... but hmm come to think of it the only reason you would need to restore your computer to an earlier time is well if you had Win ME installed .....
Personally i'd wrather run windows 3.1 or 95!
