I have inherited a Dell Poweredge 1600sc, and I am tasked with reviving it. The Seagate Cheetah drives in it failed, and I bought replacements. These are SCSI drives. The SCSI controller seems to be on the motherboard - that's where the connector is; there are no boards in the sockets. I do not believe these drives were previously part of a RAID array, or so I have been told.

If I plug in both drives, neither is recognized by the BIOS. Either drive by itself is recognized. The drives are new, no OS installed yet, but I think the BIOS still ought to be able to spot them.

Error message with both drives plugged in:
LSI Logic MPT boot ROM, no supported devices found!

I then have the option of entering the setup BIOS.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

My guess is that both drives are attempting to use the same SCSI device ID, or you have a cable termination problem. Both can be solved by some careful jumpering on the drive(s).

Thank you, kiosk. I was careful to jumper the new drives the same way as the old drives - forgetting that the old system didn't work!

We're up and running after getting the jumpers right.
