I have purchased 250MB of extra memory chip and installed it. This went fine until I started tweaking with other components. Anyhow I have now realised that whilst doing this I might have corrupted on of the slots where the chips go (NB I have the 3 usual memory DIMM slots). I have moved around the chips and have now come to the conclusion that the last bay does not work. This was diagnosed by moving new and old chips to this slot and checking if it reads it on bootup. If any chip is put on the last bay it does not get read.

Now I have put my smallest memory chip there, which is 34MB.
How I can fix this slot?
Do the DIMM slots break easily?
Mine are angled and they kind of snap on and the right hand snap on lever does not any more fit snugly. Any help?
Shall I get rid of it, since it is not actually being read or used?

Bear in mind that I'm attempting to assist while in a state of total confusion.

If your modules snap in at an angle, I'm led to believe you have 72 pin memory, but if you have 3 slots you probably have 168 pin memory, unless you have a really old socket 3 motherboard, and even then I'm not so sure.

Anyway, about all you can do with the memory slot is clean it real well with contact cleaner. Examine it carefully to see if any pins are bent or broken (not that there's much you can do about it anyway). I am able to replace these slots because I work with soldering tools all... day... long http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif For the layman, however, it's unadvisable to attempt this.
