I was working on diskette tonight and after saving my document I went to retrieve the diskette from the drive and the diskette came out except the metal protector piece stayed behind inside the drive. HELP! How can I get it out?

Hey Blue,

Well, you could try just about anything I suppose. I would not recommend using a magnet, however.

How about a pair of tweezers? If you exhaust all methods of sticking things in there to try to get the metal piece out, then you may have to physically open the case, remove the floppy drive and see if you can shake it out while holding the flapper door thingy open. Otherwise, you may have to take the floppy drive apart to get at it.

Good luck.

YIKES!

If you're lucky you might be able to dig it ou twith a thin knife or maybe a pair of hemostats, or tweezers. If not, bite the bullet and buy a new floppy drive, they're not that expensive.

once you get the floppy drive out of the case , if in fact you need to go that far, the plastic cover on the front can be very easily removed and shouldnt be much trouble getting that thing out.......

Just be careful not to destroy anything while youre in there......if all else fails throw it away and get a new one for $20 hehe

My thoughts however are becoming ones of the thought that you have lost a file that may or may not be valuable......hope thats not what has happened

Good Luck!

Hey Blue,
Been there, done that! You'll be okay. The disk is even salvageable. Those metal flappy things are easy to bend back into a useful form if you have to and taking the floppy drive out isn't hard at all.....one more thing. Unplug, your system! Only flashes of light that we want to see tonight are real lightning in this front building to the west. Eh!?

Ps. YOU don't want to Yank that thing out. Those parts are a gentler types. YOu can do it. NOthing to lose. OK time...yeah I know.
peace, and good luck. Post back.

Thanks people for your help with this. Never had that happen before and was a little leary about putting anything other than a diskette into the drive. I used a pair of plastic tweezers and opened up the drive door, used a flashlight to see inside and voila! grabbed it and it came out easily.
