Java update trouble

I am trying to update Java (Windows XP Pro), but software will not load and I get the following error msg: "bin/mlib_image.dll: Old file not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match."

Can anyone help me work around this?

Uninstall the old version...in safe mode, then try again.
