My friend and I just dropped $800+ on a new Gaming PC. We went with and AMD build as it was a lot faster, but still provided value of price versus Intel that was more expensive, but slower (e.g. Core 2 Duo vs. Phenom II).

The MOBO we got was by Gigabyte. I forget what the model is, but it's an AM3 socket and around $80+.

So we put everything together, it was all hooked up properly. My friend was able to install Windows 7 properly, but there is one problem. After installing Windows 7, and then booting up the PC from now one, it keeps saying to Update DMI data pool or something.

I've researched this and it seems a lot of people have had this problem. It's really frustrating to be honest. The hard drive is SATAII and so is his DVD drive is also SATA. There are moments where it would work, but when he restarts the computer, it would say to update dmi data pool or something.

I have never run into this issue before, as I built a gaming PC myself with Gigabyte (however, Intel). Could it be that it is AMD that's the issue?

Please help!

Thanks!

Replace the CR2032 button cell battery on the mainboard, then clear CMOS for a fresh start in BIOS.

Is it "updating" or "Verifying" DMI? Verifying is normal. If it is always updating then yes replacing the CMOS battery as kiosk suggests is a likely fix.

If replacing the CMOS battery doesn't help and you are using AHCI for your SATA hard drive then try setting it to "native IDE Mode". If this works look for a BIOS update to fix the AHCI compatibility issue. Or just stick with IDE mode.
