By which I mean it will always move the cursor around the screen, but its other functions vary.

When I first turn the laptop on, the scroll thing at the right hand side of it (sorry I don't know all the technical names!) and the zoom functions work well, but tapping the touchpad does not carry out the 'click' function (so I just use the buttons, but it is surprisingly annoying!)

Sometimes after I have had the laptop on for a while the touchpad will freeze and I will get a notification saying that the software has stopped working etc etc, so I just get rid of that notification (using the keyboard) and the touchpad works to move the cursor again, but after the notification the functions that work are reversed - it doesn't scroll, but tapping does left-click.

I was just wondering if anyone else has been experiencing this (I've had it for probably a couple of months) and if there is anything I could do to fix it?
It's really driving me mental having to remember which state of not working my laptop is in to be able to use it quickly and not be tapping/scrolling like a madwoman before I remember :s

[edit] PS - I didn't think I'd put this in the sticky as it is a different problem, though if it needs to be deleted/merged sorry!

OK so I found where it is. Doesn't explain why it comes on when scrolling no longer functions (I appreciate that it stops scrolling because the software or something fails, but not why tapping thenworks)

I had been looking at the mouse setting etc (in Control Panel), you need to go to 'device settings' then where there is "enable, disable, settings" go to THOSE settings and the second option should be tapping, just click that tickbox and it should turn tapping on/off.

I wonder how it got turned off too :s

I know the problem's solved but if anyone knows why tapping turns on when scrolling goes off I'm still intrigued!

how do I delete this?
