I have a new Intel 548 Mhz computer with windows 2000 professional running on it, it was working great, but sometimes when i reboot the computer, it will load up (always), and I have ICQ set to open up automatically, have DSL, so always connected to the router, and everything works fine.......sometimes. More often than not, when i reboot it loads up, and ICQ is running, but when i clickon on ANYTHING on the desktop, it will not open up anything and this is very frustrating, sometimes rebooting does the trick, is there something telling it not to work properly? I have not installed anything else on this computer, so i have no idea why it is doing this. Please help

I would disable icq from starting up when windows starts. If that doesnt work I dont really know what it could be, short of reinstalling windows.

Ok. That didnt do anything at all, still the same thing. I found that I can still go into IE by opening the control Panel and going to one of the favorites, that opens up IE and it works, but the entire desktop is NOT clickable. Any help out there?

Type msconfig in the RUN command box and untick it in the startup.
Have a look what else is in there, do not untick anything that you are not sure about as some things are required to run in the background.

Is that an overclocked 548 mhz? If so...could be a stability issue...

Ok. The problem was that when my sisters boyfriend setup the win2000, he told it to use no passwords at all, my daughter went in and changed it to allow her to put in her name, and make her own password, which gave her access ONLY to the control panel , haha. I changed it back to using no passwords at all, and everything is working fine now, thanks. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

I only meant to post it once, but I didn't see my post so I tried it again...
Overclocking is where you run the chip at a speed higher than what it's rated for...sometimes this can cause instability issues and 548 seemed like a kinda strange speed...
I guess you ran a diagnostic program that told you the chip speed? It's usually a few mhz in either direction of what's printed on the chip...
When you overclock though, you usually end up with a weird clock speed like 392 or 504...anyway nothing to worry about...
