Hi all well here it is my brother has a packard bell pc and he went to turn it on and it said loading OS and then he put his pass word in and the screen went blank, and the keyboard lights went off. I dont know what mother board he has,he is running win98, and he has a 166 proseser. Can anyone help on this matter im lost.

check your connections first.

mine did that once, turned out one of the plugs at the back had fell out, I did'nt check for a long time thinking that they were all screwed down.

He checked all the plugs and they are in tight? what else could be wrong it has got me stumped.

Not a lot of info to go on. Could be video card, monitor, power supply.

Was the copmputer working correctly before?
Has any software or hardware been installed recently, or drivers?


Try scanreg. Use the [F8] key or hold down [Ctrl] during boot, choose Command Prompt Only. At the C:\> prompt type
scanreg_/restore
a space in place of the underscore used here. Restore the registry with a copy made before this happened, reboot and try it.

Sorry about the multiple posts, I kept getting Internal Server Errors, took 5 minutes each time, or close, and couldn't get back to delete the extras. Finally gave up, shut down and went to bed...
