I have a problem and its an urgent one. I heard a clank in my computer and i opened it and i found that the Intel Springdale GMCH Chipset had gotten loose. I guess the glue wore off or something on it. Its a rather old computer, im having problems with its hardware as it is (i.e. cpu fan). My question is what to do with it since it came off. i dunno if i should manually put it on myself or what. can someone help me.

If it was just held on by adhesive get some alcohol to clean off the old stuff, and apply some new adhesive (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100013&cm_re=arctic_silver-_-35-100-013-_-Product).
Are you sure there were not any clips of any kind holding it down? Like this one (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835708004) or this one with a fan (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835708006)? If you had something like that you need to make sure the clips are not broken and if they are get a new one like the ones linked to above and reapply some thermal compound (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100007&cm_re=arctic_silver-_-35-100-007-_-Product).

Chipsets are usually held by adhesives and the legs soldered to the PCB so it's quite impossible for it to simply get loose. It could be the heatsink on the chip you are referring to......but if it really is the chip, it's quite difficult to solder it back manually because the legs and the solder points on the motherboard are very small.
