Skype 4.2.0.169 and Windows7

I've been having problems using skype since I upgraded to windows7 long time back. It freezes the whole system and I've to turn the power off to get it to normal.

Skype version is 4.2.0.169
Windows7 - 64bit
Ram - 4GB
Processor - T6500@2.1GHZ
Make/Model: HP pavilion dv4

I did even change the compatibility mode to windowsxp (Service Pack2) but of no luck.

My first thought was to remove Skype then re-install Skype.
