I use Microsoft Outlook for my email. This morning I clicked on a link and a message popped up that said,"The operation has been canceled due to restriction in effect on this computer. Please contact System Administrator." I must have inadvertently changed something in the settings that caused that, but I have no idea what.

Have you right clicked the link and examined it? Do you feel comfortable posting the link here so someone can look it over for you just in case it is malware or some disguised exe?

Usually admin permissions are restricting software installs (exe's) and possibly not allowing a user to access websites of a certain nature (antimalware sites, online scanners, even the nasty sites).

Actually, I fixed it about two minutes ago. I think I might know what the problem was, but I'm going to re-do a couple of things to make sure. Here's what I know for sure. Last week I installed FireFox. Last night I uninstalled FireFox so I thought that may have had something to do with it. So a little while ago I re-installed FireFox and set it as my default. I went back to the links that would not open and they opened FireFox. I then made IE the default, went back to the links and they open IE just fine. I'm wondering if before I uninstalled FireFox, I may have had it set as my default before I uninstalled it which is the reason IE wouldn't open??? Later on today, I'm going to do a little playing around to see if I can make the same thing happen.

After playing around, I'm sure that the problem was because I had FireFox as my default browser and then uninstalled it before I set IE as the default. What I just tried was reinstalling FireFox, then setting it as my default browser. I then uninstalled it with out setting IE as the default. I then clicked on one of the links in my email which gave me a message that said it couldn't open it because it didn't know which program was needed to open the link. I then opened IE and set it as my default. The links are now working. All I would have had to do when I got the first message was to open IE and set it as the default browser.
