Is there a difference between a 10Mbps Lan Card, and a 10BaseT card.
If so what is the difference?
For instance if I buy one or the other, and attempt to plug in the cable
RJ-45 male end thats comes direct from the cable modem, will either card
work?
I would like to buy a XIRCOM model as it comes with the female RJ-45 socket

I'm not SKHIPS, but... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

These days, when someone says "10Mbps LAN", it is (sometimes falsely) assumed they are talking about 10BaseT (RJ-45 connector). A search on "ethernet" turned up this reference guide (http://wwwhost.ots.utexas.edu/ethernet/); there are many others.

I've had good luck with a 100/10bT Linksys (http://www.computers4sure.com/Product.asp?ProductID=34822&iid=342); here is the 10bT (http://www.computers4sure.com/Product.asp?ProductID=89944&iid=342) model. If I were to buy one today, I'd get the integrated (http://www.computers4sure.com/Product.asp?ProductId=93967) model because it has no "dongle" (pictured here (http://www.computers4sure.com/Product.asp?ProductID=24744&iid=342)) to wear out. (Thin wires inside the dongle cable will eventually break after being repeatedly flexed.)

Since you say you've got an older notebook: It probably doesn't have a "CardBus" (32 bit) type PCMCIA interface, so don't get one of these cards; I don't think they're backward compatible with the original 16-bit standard.
