When you Burn-in a new system .
You run programs and or bench marks to test the hard ware.
This allows you the opportunity to find any component that is going to fail in the first few days.

I use zdnet bench mark programs and SiSoft (Sandra) http://www.sisoftware.co.uk/sandra
To Burn-in my systems. Running them Continuously for 48 to 72 hours Continuously

I have been able to find and de-bug hardware problems and defective hardware using this method
