My Dell Inspiron laptop has a hard drive with "teeth" (for lack of a better term) instead of pins.

I have a 40-pin 3.5" HDD to 44-pin 2.5" HDD adapter

which I can use to connect a laptop HDD to the motherboard of my desktop. But obviously my Dell HDD will not connect due to the "teeth".

There are Dell adapters on Newegg and elsewhere but they have female 44-pin connections, which doesn't help me.

Is there such a thing as a Dell to 40-pin 3.5" IDE adapter?

The purpose is to connect the HDD from my Dell laptop to my desktop as a second hard drive, which I have done with other laptop hard drives that have pins.

The 'teeth' are the adapter...that piece comes off and the 'normal' pins are then accessible.

The 44 (39 data + 1 blank + 4 power) pins should all be at the same level as the other separate 4 jumper-pin block once the laptop-adapter's "teeth" have been removed. Pins 1 and 2 are adjacent to the jumper block and should align with the red line on the IDE cable.

Thank you both for the clarification. I was able to remove the teeth--not my dentures but the adapter on the pins--and I'll connect it to my desktop machine tomorrow.
