Hello I have a sony vaio notebook
I am having problems connecting to the internet.
I am able to connect to the modem but I do not get internet acces.
Firstly my question is on the vaio how do I open the window for Wireless because there is no switch but it has software access?
Second I can connect to the modem but why am I not able to connect to the internet because my Toshiba and HP laptops have no problem connecting?
Thank you.

What OS are you running on the Sony?

Just checking on your nomenclature. By "modem" I'm guessing that you actually mean a wifi router.
If that is the case, in most versions of Windows, there is usually an icon or icons in the System Tray that will show you options (assuming Wifi has been enabled) about how to connect after right-clicking on it. The first time you connect you may be (and indeed should be) prompted for a password/passphrase.
In the absence of a physical on/off wifi switch there is usually a Fn key combination that will toggle wifi on or off - usually but not always with an associated LED light.
If you actually mean a dial-up modem (broadband dongle or otherwise) then things are done differently.

I am currently using BT-Home hube whihc has built in wifi.
I also have motorola modem linked to a linksys wifi router.
Through the Sony laptop i do not get any internet however my other laptops being Toshiba and Dell both pick it up and get interenet access.
There is an graduated bar icon in the system tray that tells me i am connected to the modem but "no internet access"

If you go to Control panel>Network and Internet>Network and Sharing center>Network devices, does the router show up at all?

If you have a BT-Home Hub (http://www.homehub.bt.com/) attached presumably by a telephone line to the internet - then why do you need another modem and wifi router??
Possibly you are connecting to the linksys wifi router and the other laptops are connecting to the BT-Home hub. Can you see more than one available connection in a list and what happens if you turn off the linksys router.
Alternatively what happens if you connect the BT-Home hub to the linksys router with an ethernet cable (using one of the four LAN ports on both devices) and disconnect the modem from whatever it is attached to. If you do attach the two routers together like this you need to turn off DCHP in the linksys router (which will allow the BT-Home Hub to designate LAN addresses to all the PCs) and then reboot the linksys router and any PCs attaching to it.
