(1) one minute start-up sequence time? My suggestion is hang in there with that! And WELCOME by the way.

Anything about 2-2½ minutes is average, under 1½ minutes is very good. Mine takes about 2½, so if you only have to wait one minute you're in excellent shape, you won't get it to boot much faster than that.

You can eventualy try few more tricks.
Click "Start" then "Run" then type "msconfig" but without quotes(").
When new window opens click on "Advanced" and you will see all programs that are automaticaly starting with Windows (those programs you can see in the lower right corner of your screen next to the clock). Disable all other programs by removing "tik" sign except those related to system or Windows. If you are not sure about any particular entry better DON'T touch!
During the Boot process, most machines are first looking for floppy to boot from there, then on C: drive and sometimes on CDROM drive before C: drive. You can change boot sequence in CMOS setup (I hope you know how to get there)by setting the boot from C: first then from floppy. Also if you are not connected to any network (single home PC) disable LAN in CMOS so that machine is not "checking" is there any network, thus wasting some additional time.
