Hi all,
Thanks in advance for taking the time to help me. I've been searching/testing methods for the past 6 hours to fix my dilemma and I've finally come to post here for some direct suggestions from you.

Specs:
I'm using a Toshiba Satellite L505d-s5965 with Windows 7 Ultimate.
Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller is my ethernet network adapter.
Direct wired connection to my modem: Toshiba pcx2600

As far as what I've installed on this PC it is very basic. I just wiped/reinstalled the HD last night due to a virus infestation. Was running on Vista before and getting the same issues that I am about to list.

Symptoms:
Downloading or even just web page changes cause me to lose connection to the internet and then simultaneously my "Home" network changes to "Unidentified" network in the Network and Sharing Panel still without connection. After about a minute the network is identified again and I have internet access. It's like the song that never ends.
Also I've noticed every light on my modem lights up and stalls for about a second when the "unidentified" network comes about.
This also happens at random times when I'm just chilling at the computer typing out an essay for school.

I can get about 1-5mb of downloads before this happens, so it's a lot of clicking and waiting when I try to download a gigs worth of data. I've also noticed streaming sites like youtube will download about 25% of their stream before this symptom occurs.
Websites with more data tend to cause this to happen a little faster than say the google homepage.

Things I've Tried:
1. I've numerously tried simply shutting the computer down, unplugging the modem, waiting, plugging it back in and powering the PC back up with the modem fully pinging.

2. All my drivers are up to date.

3. I've disabled my firewall, turned my virus protection off(what little bit of Microsoft Security Essentials I've been able to DL during up-time).

4. I've tried cmd ipconfig and setting a manual IP addy with no avail.

5. Also tried finding Apple's "Bonjour" service to delete it in my services tab but I haven't downloaded Itunes yet. (this was the most common fix for similar symptoms that I saw.)

I tried to be as thorough as I could be while keeping it clear and concise. Point it out if I've forgotten to include any crucial info, I'll post it asap. I hope one of you computer masterminds has some sort of a solution for me. I eagerly await your responses!

Many thanks,
Derek

If you are having connectivity problems after a clean install then I wonder if your hardware (modem or cables) is faulty or incompatible with your ISP. Have you contacted them and if so did they have any recommendations. You could maybe also try the USB connection to see if that makes any difference.

I'll have to give the ISP a call after I get out of work tomorrow. As for the USB connection, how do I do that? :D I tried earlier and I couldn't figure it out.

Hoping that when I call my ISP that not actually being the primary account holder for the service won't matter for troubleshooting. Just renting this condo while my GF goes to school out here for a semester.

Thanks again. Anybody else got any suggestions?

Just got off the phone with 24/7 tech support and apparently this is a known issue with the Toshiba PCx2600 modems. One is being mailed to us so hooray! We'll have 3 days of reliable internet before we head home to New England... :D

Thanks again all consider my request closed.
