It's certainly a delicious thought, but you can bet drives of that size will be cost-prohibitive for quite some time to come.

Out soon?
OCZ Technology has had SSDs out for a while now that are twice the size, and almost triple the speed of that one!
This PCI-E X8 drive is available in 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB (http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/solid-state-drives/pci-express/z-drive-r2/mlc-performance-series/ocz-z-drive-r2-p88-pci-express-ssd.html).
1TB, and 2TB
Built in 4 drive RAID-0 aray
Read: Up to 1.4GB/s (1400MB/s)
Write: Up to 1.4GB/s (1400MB/s)
Sustained Write: Up to 950 MB/s
$8000.00~$9000.00+
OCZ Colossus Series SATA II 3.5" SSD (http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/solid_state_drives/ocz_colossus_series_sata_ii_3_5-ssd) is available in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, 1TB capacities but is limited to
Read: Up to 260 MB/s
Write: Up to 260 MB/s
Sustained Write: 140 MB/s
mainly because of SATA II and does not have built-in RAID-0.
$3000.00~$4000.00
Could you imagine 4 of those OCZ Colossus Series drives on my RAID controller with its 4GB of DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) write cache

Heck-spensive, but then - all new technology or the latest model of something always is...

Looks amazing. I'd expect to pay well over £1000 for something like that though, so I think I'll stick to my £40 F3 for now.

Other than bragging rights... you could beat the throughput (not that I believe the real world throughput listed), Rond linked, with cheaper existing technology. I also fail to see consumer grade equipment needs this kind of throughput at the cost you would incur - Not with copper gigabit NICS... Hopefully lots of morons will buy them so the cost drops. If you want fast boot speeds for your PC get an SSD for the OS partition, if you want sustained read/write for I/O intensive applications you need a SAN using RAID 10 with SCSI technology. It is cheaper, redundant, and as fast as you can handle without buying 3K$ dollar drives and the controller...
