Second Problem. I recently bought 3 - 128 MB SDRAM DIMM CHIPS that are PC-133 but are supposed to work on PC-100. I have 3 slots and as long as I only use ONE (ANYONE) it reads the 128 MB of memory. IF i add a second or some of the old memory, it only recognized the old memory or 1 of the 128 MB chips. Is there anyway to get this to work correctly or should I just give up and sell the memory?

A little more info about your system would be helpful...motherboard, the specs for the memory, etc.

IBM APTIVA 2140-L5H with many modifications. CD-RW, memory upgrades etc. Not sure what the system board and stuff is. If you go to this page, it has my specs and just about everything my computer has except the few upgrades I have already completed. Like I said it now has W98SE instead of 95 and has 160 MB memory in now. 2 (64 MB) and the original 32MEG chip. Does this help?

The memory that's in it now (pairs) sounds like 72 pin SIMM. The new memory is 168 pin DIMM, which can be used in single sticks. In most cases they cannot be used together, you get SIMM or DIMM, but not both at one time. If the motherboard can support both at once, often the SIMM can only be placed in a certain bank, the other bank must be empty. The only way to know for sure is to consult your motherboard manual.

If you know both can be supported, go into BIOS, exit and save changes without changing anything. Sometimes you just have to show BIOS the new memory is there.
