I have a hardly used DOT Matrix printer (oldie but goodie).
Can I install this with a WIN98SE OS?
There is no software that came with the printer.

Hey,
Windows probably has a generic driver for that printer. Power down the computer, attach the printer cable to the LPT1 port and power back up. If the Found New Hardware wizard does not start automatically, then go to Control Panel/Add New Hardware wizard. Choose to search for new components yourself and point to printers. Let the wizard run. You may have to insert your 98SE CD when it tells you it will search for drivers.
Otherwise, find out the make of your printer and try to find the manufacturer's website for a driver.
Good luck.

Woe is me.
Most dot-matrix printers are Epson compatable and the Epson driver should work for it, Win98 does include several Epson drivers (FX-80, LX-80 and so on). Some things to keep in mind, for things that you want to print on it try not to use True-type fonts, print directly to the printer-don't spool it, and it may be a unidirectional printer...

BB What are you smokin'? Correct instructions, wrong wizard.
Start\Settings\Printers\Add New Printer. Should do it.
Win 98 should already have drivers for it. If not, Windrivers (http://www.windrivers.com) is the place to go.
I love it when BB goofs, I get some paybacks for all the bald jokes. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Can't say as I disagree with ya Pete, I should have thought of the Add Printer bit, but I am pretty sure he could have gotten to there by my directions as well.
Oivay! So much to learn, so few brain cells.
Well, thanks for catching my error Pete. (This is where I would usually insert a bald joke or comment, but alas, I shall refrain) http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

What? No bald joke? Now I know you're slipping...
The van is moderately road worthy, although still in need of plenty more repairs, but will get me around pretty well until I can scrape up the cash to fix things like brakes, rear end (broken shock mount), front end (bushings gone)...and no, brakes are not an urgent issue, still some life left for them...transmission is working fine, rebuilt it and got it working this winter, shouldn't have any more problems with it. Found out the pilot bearing was totally gone, that was what trashed the trans. Fixed that, it should last this time.
