Is it possible to write a login script to
stop gremlins(I suspect the cleaning crew)
from using my computer at night? They have a
key ,so locking the door doesn't work & i would
rather not have to hide power cords at night.

just go and get SecLock (http://www.topqualityfreeware.com/sfu.shtml), it is FREE and effective.

You can lock your pc while on or just shut down, password must be entered for desktop to load again if computer is rebooted/unplugged.

mouse will be frozen to the area that the password is entered into, contrl-alt-delete will not work, and settings for this are passworded as well so they can only be changed by you.

I use it and recommend it to people that I do computer work for.

Another option is to put in a BIOS password...

BIOS password will not stop them from booting into windows, just BIOS changes.

right ??

also, with SecLock you can lock it while the computer remains on- in case you need to...........

the standard schmoe won't be able to circumvent it easy I can tell you, and it will TELL you if and what date/time someone unsuccesfully tried to get past it.

food for thought if security is an issue..

and the price can't be beat.

had something called "BootLocker" on my DELL, this was a really secure program.. it locked DOS options and I used to make money betting guys that they couldn't 'break' it.

very much NOT free though.

Develop a habit of dropping in at random times to pick up paperwork or something you "forgot" to take home...and have the police drop by sometime to ask a few questions.

Seriously, in addition to the application posted above several are available that will do the trick, check around and see if you can find one that suits your purposes. Programs are also available that will record all keystrokes to a log file. Get one, install it and show them the log, let them know you're trying to find out who's been tinkering.

The idea is to let them know you're onto them and trying to find out who is responsible. That goes a long way toward stopping activity of that nature, but I would definitely check into a reliable program that requires a password to access the computer at the very least.
