I have a biostart m7mia mobo and I heard that my sound card should go into my bottom PCI slot in order so it doesn't interfere with the vid card but I had it set up in another one of the slots and the IRQs were straight. Does it really matter??
NO it doesn't matter.
The only conflict I have seen with the SB5.1 and selecting a pci slot have been involving the raid controller on the via based mother boards.
And then when the raid was in use.
If it works DON'T FIX IT

I always spread cards around to dissapate heat better rather than crowding them all together.

In theory PCI cards can use any slot. In practice some of them seem to be picky. Usually, any slot will work, but I have seen instances where some, video cards in particular, must be in slot 1. Other cards can go in any slot and it shouldn't make any difference. I always put the video card in slot 0 or 1, depending on how they are designated, and let any others sort themselves out.
