I have a ibm thinkpad 600 that has a PII 266 cpu running windows 98 se with 160 mb ram ,10 g hd with a 4x dvd drive. I would like to upgrade the cpu. As you can see I have upgraded every thing else, but can not seem to find any info on the cpu. Please help me. Terry

I can't speak specifically of this laptop, but in a lot of cases, the cpu is soldered onto the mainboard...if it's not, you could conceivably upgrade to a P2 366 or 400, but you'd need to find a laptop chip and find tech docs that give jumper settings...

Your best bet for the cpu would probably be a laptop w/a broken screen or some other catastrophic damage that didn't break the cpu...check computer shops in your area that deal in used systems...military discards can also be a good source of parts...most large bases have a place that handles old computers (and other stuff) and sells it to the public...

Good luck...

Well, referring to the previous post, if it's not a smouldered bored and you can upgrade the CPU besides trying some wholesale computer & computer parts (check for them in yellow pages), i'd also suggest E-BAY, just make sure you know exactly what you're looking for and get enough info on any auctioned part. I actually got some good deals off of there, i must say http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
