In Windows 98 do this:

Open the Start menu and click "Programs" then "Accessories" and finally "System Tools". Then run the "Drive Converter".

It's Windows 95 on 1.19gb harddrive. I want to copy it on a new harddrive
that's partitioned FAT 32 and it won't let me.

Windows 95 can only use FAT32 if it has the OEM service pack. If this is a retail version of Windows 95 it won't work with FAT32.

As i recall, it wasn't until the second version of 95 that you could use the FAT32 system, then of course it has carried on into W98. Try this (http://www.project9.com/fat32/) link; it may help to answer your question. If you have to upgrade your OS, i would humbly suggest you go with either W98se or W2000, they will provide the most stablility and bang for your buck. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

Thanks for all your help guys. I have Windows ME & 2000 on my system.
This system is one at work. We've back it up on the server anyway. Just
wanted to see if I could do it, I'm rebuilding the whole thing practically anyway. There's not going to be much left of the old. I will reserch the web link to gain new knowledge and if so, I will give it a shot. Once more, Thanks for all your help.

To move the complete installation from one hdd to another you would have to use a program like Norton Ghost which takes a snap shot of your whole hdd including the registery (absoultely everything) and save it as an image that you can use as a restore backup or blast onto a new hdd.

A program like partition magic 6 will allow you to move partitions and change FAT etc but I'm not 100% if you would lose data.

If you are installing a new hard drive, you should be able to transfer all data, including a working OS by using the installation software included with the new drive. If it didn't come with this software, check the manufacturer's website, most have it available for download, and usually it's designed to fit on a floppy. I've used several versions, for Seagate, Maxtor, Quantum and Western Digital drives, all worked very well.

Set up the new drive as Master and the old one as Slave on the same IDE channel, boot with the installation disk (it's often bootable, the manufacturer's website will have info) and run the installation software. It will give you the option to transfer all data to the new drive. If the installation software is not bootable, use a start up disk, then switch to the floppy containing the installation software.

This will also partition the new drive and get it ready for use, all in one operation. It's usually very easy to use, it's designed so anyone can use it regardless of computer literacy.

Actually I was using Western Digital at first and it did the partition
+ format and began to copy then stop with a message about something being
damaged or corrupted. So I went with the DOS and it gave a message about
no being able to fine a valid FAT 32 file system or something like that.
Thanks for your help. I guess I'll just throw that harddrive away, sounds
like something's wrong with it.

Actually, I just wanted to mention that I have partition magic pro 6.0 and it does wonders. I never had a problem with data loss, since I've used it on a lot of machines, altough to be on the safe side, everyone should still back up their systems.
