I curious about search engines and what they typically do.

The context: My group creates content that eventually makes it to our Website. In one article, we discuss alcohol, and this article is published as an html page. I think this is static as the url is simply (note: not a real URL):

http://www.mysite.com/US/Articles/345959838/index.htm

If I use Google to search my site, I get no results:

"alcohol site:http://www.mysite.com"

If I use our Website search engine (I think a Google search appliance), I get no results.

I asked the "Web Goddess" (yes, we call her the Web Goddess, for many reasons) and she says the search will only index the first 50 words of a page, and the words in metadata, and that is the typical way search engines work.

My point is that our articles cover many important subjects and all of these terms, keywords, etc. cannot be in the first 50 words or just the metadata of the Web page.

Now, if I search this site for Boogely using the same techniques, I bet I'll find it! (but I might be wrong)...

Anyway, I was wondering if she is right or if my expectations are unrealistic?
