Hello everyone!

I'm reinstalling Windows XP on a laptop. I deleted all partitions (including the EISA Devices Partition) and created two new ones. After selecting the format for both partitions I've begun the installation of the OS on the C:/ partition. When I get to the Regional and Language Options setup the keyboard, touch pad, and all other buttons (including the power button) are no longer responsive. The keyboard and power button works just fine when in the BIOS, however.

I have tried pulling the battery for 30 seconds but that had no effect. I didn't think that would make much difference since the buttons worked in BIOS anyway.

Did the removal of the EISA Devices Partition have anything to do with this? I only ask because this is my first time ever setting up a laptop. I've built and setup a few of my own desktop pc's with no issues.

Thanks for your time!

Removing the partition shouldn't have affected the installation per se. It sounds like the CD is corrupt or missing the relevant drivers. If you can get the drivers they can be added at the start using the F6 option at the bottom of the screen.

Other approaches could be to create an unattended installation (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314459) or to try a USB or PS/2 Keyboard and/or Mouse.

Thanks! I will try these tonight. Another USB keyboard doesn't work either. I'll look around for my PS/2 adapter.
