I've been looking at network monitors, trying to find one that does what I want. So far, I've found ones that mainly monitor speed and current usage, with a bit of history (though not much).

When looking at the details, it seems unbearably high. 91Mb for a day, where I barely used the computer at all, except for two downloads? I think not... Could be if there is some spyware, but I doubt it.

At any rate, what I am looking for is something like SurplusMeter (http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/20884/surplusmeter) for Macs.

It also has an option to add bytes, or subtract bytes, if you know that there has been an error. (I just sent a 1.5MB file over the network to another machine, for instance, and it didn't use bandwidth.)

If there is ANYTHING at all out there like this, or at least better than NetMeter and AnalogX's monitor... please, PLEASE help me.

Either that, or this is just one way that Macs are superior to PC's...

Keep in mind that nowadays most web sites have embedded flash-based animated ads, lots of high-resolution pictures and tons upon tons of Javascript code. Just a front page of some web portal could eat away four to five megabytes of your bandwidth, and navigating through subpages makes things worse because every page has its own set of Flash ads, so you get to download them over and over again. Don't be surprised by this - it's just the way things are now.

Suppose it could... I doubt it, but it's a possibility. Even the monitores are accurate, they aren't displaying information like I want... Ok, so I'm picky about my GUI, but the stuff that shows... especially in the bottomhalf of the window. And the way I can set a limit, and when the month starts. It's wonderful, really.

OK, I'll bite. :p It has nothing to do with MAC vs PC, but just a matter of if someone has written such a program for PC. Which likely it is out there, just a matter of searching for it and trying out some apps to find what you are looking for.

This one (http://www.hootech.com/NetMeter/) looks like it might do everything you want. Though in a slightly different way then the Mac app. It is pay for after 30 day trial though. But again keep searching and you will likely find a freebie.

Here, this freebie (http://www.softperfect.com/products/networx/) looks promising. Has notification and quotas and various reports.

I agree that 91MB is nothing. Did your AV update? Other programs run updates automatically? So many things can cause this including networked computers talking to each other during the course of the day.

Edit - Liking the freebie myself actually. Might keep that one around.

Was supposed to make you bite... Successful troll is successful! At any rate, NetWorx looks pretty good. Loving the NetStat so I can see where the bandwidth is disappearing to... Heh. Hopefully this will help me... and while I agree with everyone that 91MB is nothing... it's a lot when you are doing next to nothing. 2 DL's from emails. Telnet. That added up to 91MB. Perhaps Avast did update... next time it happens, I'll know!:p
